The first thing you notice about "Lady" is its melodic similarity to another sap classic, "Feelings." Indeed, every time I head Kenny Rogers' sing that key word, my mind supplies "feelings" as if it were involved in a conspiracy against my mental health. I do wonder if "Lady" is truly a sap classic; the arrangement puts it on the sap side, as does its lyrics. But for my money it's missing that certain something that says sap. It's certainly guilty of over-romanticism, but that's a trait shared by hundreds of songs.
