You may be wondering why "sacrifice" is a sap element of this song. It comes from the fact that she's singing to someone who either doesn't or can't love her in return. Her love is hopeless, and the fact that she's revealing it (another case of Too Much Information) indicates that, despite her claim that "I'm not trying to make you feel uncomfortable," that is the only possible result. The almost-spoken "I love you" becomes almost creepy in this context; is she going to become a stalker? One hopes that won't be the case, but in any event she's already revealed that she has the emotional maturity of a smitten sixteen-year-old. The floaty synth background, the fake harp run, and the breathy background vocals all add to the sappiness.

Ah, yes, unrequited love. Bittersweet when it's your own, tiresome when you're hearing about someone else's for the 900th time. And what's with "I honestly love you"? Like he was going to think she was lying otherwise? Another great sap hit from 1974.
